The Last Mystery Revealed         4th December 2015

23 attended what has been acclaimed to be the last ever Christmas Mystery do by Yuppers.  They were:

Yupmeister, Anytime Tone, Pedro, Granpop Bill, Craigee, Bolt, Stubbee, Stew Art, JayCee, Malc Jay, Spikelett, Ali Gee, R G Bargee, Jacko, 2 Pie Hard Dave Semi-Colon, Tim Mothy, Benson B.Eds (Brian Edwards), BrollyWolly Bagman of Talke Talke, Mr Tahoohigh, Rob Sparklette, Gadget Man (Tony), Huge Mungeous and Keithee's up for it.

The first pick up point was arranged to be from the Real Ale bar in Bridge Street, Newcastle at 4pm but delays to the Scraggs bus set back the start to 4.20, pushing us into the rush hour and traffic queues.

Dasher and Debris made a welcome surprise appearance at the Abbey Inn, with Debris flashing her large gem around after Dasher had finally done the honourable deed.
Awards were handed out to individuals who had assisted or made memorable contributions in some way to the office sqwalks, squarry doos, the Alternative Mystery do and the trip abroad.

Finally the Sqwoscar Award was made which is given to someone who had made contributions in some way to the Squarry club over the past year.

The nominations received were:

o Sid, who nominated himself again for keeping everyone happy in Germany
o Austin for his work in organising walks for the Staffs Moorlands
o Anytime Tony for his on-going support throughout the year and arranging various walks and doos.
o Turkish Tone for his work as Honorary Treasurer in Germany
o Jaycee for his sterling work in keeping the beer bikers refreshed in Berlin
o Roadrunner for the Stourbridge do and the twin peaks walk
o Scottee  for not coming on Squarry doos and thus saving Craigee a fortune
o Dasher for battling through his recent health scares
o And Richee for suggesting the best ever do in Colditz.

The award, given to a different person each year and which is also based on the number of nominations received was won by Anytime Tone.

To mark the 25th Anniversary of the Squarry Club a special gift was made to everyone who had attended, in the form of a unique Squarry Club pen.  Yuppers was subsequently awarded with a unique box of beers, personalised with his photograph and labels referring to the last ever mystery do.  Many thanks to everyone.

As usual a few thank you's were made and Yuppers mentioned that although this was the last ever mystery do, it could be this years biggest red herring; but probably not.

Glasses were raised to the Squarry Club; Friar Tuck took a deserved rest, and 4 delicious main courses were served along with nans and rice.

Thanks again
Yuppers
(enjoy yer last ever mystery)
The Earl Grey was the next stop on the edge of Leek town centre.  From here the journey to the final pub, The Abbey Inn, took no more than around 5 minutes, much to the relief of Craigee.
Back on the bus it was time to reveal the winner of the nearest guess of the restaurant location.  There was a very large spread of guesses this year ranging from Wolverhampton to Coventry, Leicester and Northwich, but none were bang on the mark or even local to Stoke.  Richee, despite being out of the country, also placed a guess.  'Craigee can pick up my winnings', he instructed, but alas he wasn't even close either.

The clues had been dead easy according to Yup.  The photos of the black dog and the railings, or rail links (steam railway at Cheddleton), bar billiard table and clock were a give away for the Black Lion.  'A fine brew'' and 'Knight time for the upper crust' were obviously the Earl Grey.

3 humbugs faced the chillie chocolate challenge for not bothering to guess.  2 out of 3 small pieces of chocoate were extremely hot, containing deadly scorpion chillies, whilst one was plain chocolate.  Pedro and Joseph were unlucky whilst a happy Bolt survived the lucky dip.

The nearest guess was a mere 17 miles away from the final destination, made by Stew Art, who doesn't even live in this area anymore!

The staff at Sanjeev's Indian Restaurant at Baddeley Green made us very welcome and quickly served up drinks, poppadums followed by a meat platter.  The award ceremony began with a welcome to Brolly Wolly Man and Turkish Tone, followed by the 'Last to Pay' booby prize which was awarded to the shameful Sparklet.

Yup introduced his assistant for the evening; Friar Tuck, to the sounds of the Robin Hood theme, who looked not too dissimilar to Keithee in a brown habit.  He tidied up his appearance in the gents with Tony on hand !!!  Whatever they got up to, it delayed his appearance but we got there in the end.
The bus headed towards Meir where the driver, Barry, tried his best to make up for the delays and headed around a few back streets.  Whether it helped save time was anyone's guess but at least we were moving.  The first stop was the Black Lion in Hollow Lane, Cheddleton, (not to be confused with the other Black Lion at Consall Forge), where a selection of pies and home made chips were provided in the snug at the back. As usual Yuppy missed out but found 3 lone chips and a few crusts from the pies smiling at him from the large silver dish.
